INTERREG III B Project GreenKeys
Urban Green as a Key for Sustainable Cities
The project
Urban green spaces are crucial elements of all cities. They affect the
townscape, provide ecological diversity and form essential structural
and functional elements that make cities and urban regions liveable for
their citizens. Despite the well known benefits gained from green spaces
their present structure and functionality cannot be considered optimal
in many cases. GreenKeys focuses on the improvement of urban green
spaces situation and benefits towards sustainable cities by developing a
"Pool of Green Strategies" (instruments, methods and new typologies).
Case study cities will develop pilot projects to create new or to
improve significant green areas for more social, ecological and
economical qualities both for the cities and inhabitants towards
increasing community capacity, local governance and human development.
The main objectives of Greenkeys are to define incentives for structural
changes, develop a pool of urban green development strategies and to
transfer the knowledge gained throughout the implementation process.
